Talisker Skye
Talisker, the only distillery on the isle of Skye, is famous for producing intense and smokey flavoured whisky. This expression still retains some of these qualities, although with a much more rounded and soft creamy taste. An addition to a range of new NAS (No Age Statement) expressions inluding Talisker Storm, Dark Storm and Port Ruighe.
Spicy, peppery at first, but also sweet on the palate. After a bit, hints of citrus and vanilla shine through. Not as fierce, intense, peaty or punchy as the classic 10 year old. Is it intended as an entry level for those new to Talisker? Bottled at 45.8% it’s still as strong as the original classics but doesn’t seem it, as it’s very smooth and palatable at a very reasonble price.
Conclusion
Like they say, single malts, they’re all good, but some are better! Talisker is the feisty punch in face from the classic 10 year old. Open the bottle, stick your nose in it, and a smokey peaty fist swipes your nose in a very friendly way.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a very nice dram, easy to drink, a good introduction to Talisker, very suitable for those not so keen on the peaty expressions, but I personally prefer the depth and punchy intensity of the classic 10 year old.
